Projects at BenQ

During my tenure at BenQ spanning nearly four years, I have concentrated on developing product marketing videos. This work includes a variety of formats, such as tutorial videos, product promotion films, and case studies. I employ a mix of camera techniques along with 2D and 3D animations to effectively present our stories.

How-to Video

My Role:

Not My Work:

For this project, I created a user-friendly 'How to' video for a product software, aimed at guiding consumers on how to utilize its built-in features. This software boasts a range of functionalities like a Pomodoro timer, eye-rest reminders, and an automatic screen lock feature. My role encompassed scripting and producing the video using both 2D and 3D animation techniques. The final video was uploaded to YouTube, where it serves as an instructional guide for viewers. Additionally, throughout the tutorial, I made sure to highlight the product's benefits, effectively informing the audience about its unique selling points and advantages.

Script

I was responsible for creating an instructional guide for our product software, which includes features like a Pomodoro timer and eye-rest alerts. My process began with identifying the target audience and the software's purpose. I collected 4 different types of videos for inspiration and discussed these with my team to decide on the direction. I then developed 3 script options, after selecting the most suitable script, I used 2D and 3D animation techniques to produce the final video, aiming to educate viewers about the software's use and benefits.

In the first phase of creating this product animation, I focused on laying out 3D models and textual content. I used Clay surface for rapid 3D rendering, followed by 2D motion processing in After Effects, aiming to complete this within a week. During this phase, I regularly collaborated with colleagues from different departments to verify the accuracy of the information presented in the animation. This cross-departmental feedback was crucial to ensure the animation accurately represented our product's features and functions.

In the second phase of our product animation, my focus shifts to intricate rendering of the 3D models, emphasizing the enhancement of lighting, shadow, and texture details to bring a lifelike representation of the product. Concurrently, I refine the animation's motion and color palette to enhance visual appeal while adhering to brand guidelines. This stage involves close collaboration with the Industrial Design (ID) team, whose stringent standards for product appearance and material quality are crucial for ensuring the animation's fidelity. Balancing technical precision with artistic expression, I aim to ensure that the final animation not only accurately showcases the product features but also captivates the audience visually.

The target market for BenQ's large interactive flat panel (IFP) displays primarily includes schools and businesses across Europe. Therefore, we highlight the experiences of teachers using IFPs in educational settings as successful case studies for this product. These narratives showcase the practical applications and benefits of IFPs in enhancing teaching and learning experiences.

In these success story videos, my role involves scriptwriting and engaging in discussions with the Marcom team. Once the script is finalized, we usually allocate half a day for onsite location scouting. The filming is a collaborative effort with another team member. We use a Sony A73 camera coupled with a DJI stabilizer to ensure superior and stable shooting quality. This meticulous process is vital in capturing the essence of the IFP's impact in educational settings.

At each product launch, we produce a branded video to distinctly define the intended user demographic and what the product symbolizes. My responsibilities in these projects include overall planning and coordination, scriptwriting, collaborative filming, video editing, and color correction. Script development required roughly two weeks of thorough communication, with an additional week dedicated to logistical planning of venues and manpower. The shooting was executed using a Sony A73.

The monitor ID

At BenQ, I spend nearly 80% of my time creating product videos, utilizing 3D animation techniques to showcase the details and advantages of our screen products. This involves meticulously crafting each frame to ensure that the unique features of each product are highlighted – from the sleek design and vibrant display to the innovative technology that sets our screens apart. My goal is to create visuals that not only inform but also captivate our audience, drawing them into the world of high-quality visuals and cutting-edge technology that BenQ offers. Every project is an opportunity to blend artistry with technology, telling a story that resonates with our customers and leaves a lasting impression.

3D animation

My role involves creating captivating marketing videos for various tech products. The process starts with getting ProE files from our design team, detailing every aspect of the product. However, ProE files aren't directly suitable for my 3D modeling and animation tasks. So, I convert them into STP format, which is more compatible across different 3D software. With the STP files ready, I dive into Cinema 4D. Here, I set up scenes, adjust lighting, and animate to highlight our products' unique features and design details

2D Post-Production

As a motion designer, once the animation is complete, I move on to post-production and compositing. For instance, the content displayed on the product screens is all composited in After Effects. This stage includes color correction, adding visual effects, sound effects, and any necessary text or titles. It's about enhancing the animation's visual appeal and ensuring that every element aligns perfectly with our creative vision.

Video Content

When creating content for screen products, like first-person gaming scenarios or vibrant, free-spirited koi fish, I predominantly rely on 3D software. For gaming content, I design using Unreal Engine 4, incorporating C++ programming for character interactions and attacks, aiming for an immersive experience. Additionally, while working on 3D animations, I integrate Unity for AR interactive mechanisms, allowing for a richer application of 3D assets in diverse contexts.
